Wardrobe Woes
Wardrobe Woes
You know the line, “a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear”. The problem usually isn’t that you have too many clothes, or not enough clothes. The problem is that you have the wrong combination of clothes for your colouring, personal style and lifestyle. And this is compounded by the fact that they’re not correctly organised.
So, you’ve audited your wardrobe, identified the gaps and organised everything.
You set out to shop with the best intentions and are quickly overwhelmed by the ridiculous volume of sameness, none of which you want. You get despondent and end up compromising what you want for the ‘meh’ you can get. You get home, put it in your closet and realise it’s not what you wanted at all. It hangs there forlornly for a few months (years) and you finally give up and give in away. Oh well, it’s only money!
Online shopping is an option, if you know the brand, your correct size and can trust the colour representation on your screen.
The good news is that shopping is a skill you can learn. The better news is that it takes lots of practice and is fun. Here are some tips to get you started.
Know your personal colour palette and carry your swatches when you shop.
Know your personal style, body shape and what clothes and accessories work for you.
Know what you need, how it will work with your existing wardrobe and plan your trip.
Dress appropriately, remembering that you’ll be on your feet, want your hands free and will be changing clothes all day.
Stay focussed, take your time, remember to eat and stay hydrated.
And if you really want to nail this skill, book a personal shopping trip with a professional shopper!
